We keep things simple at B-PlanDIY. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
B-PlanDIY is a New Zealand-based online tool that helps small business owners and startups create a business plan and cashflow forecast. You can contact us at support@b-plandiy.com.
We collect only what we need to provide our service:
We do not sell your information to anyone. We do not use it for advertising.
The information you enter into the B-PlanDIY app — your business details, financials, goals and strategy — is saved on your own device in your browser's local storage. We do not keep a copy of it, we cannot browse or retrieve it, and it is not held in any database of ours.
One important exception. When you use the Generate Business Plan button or an AI Suggest button, the information needed for that request is sent from your browser, via our server, to our AI provider (Anthropic) so the content can be written. Depending on the feature used this can include your business description, market and competitor notes, vision, values, goals, financial figures and any contact details you entered. This transmission is encrypted. Anthropic processes it to return the requested text and does not use it to train their models. If you would prefer this information were not sent to an AI provider, do not use the Generate Business Plan or AI Suggest features — the rest of the app, including the cashflow forecast, works without them.
Voice input. Some fields in the app have a Speak button. If you use it, your browser records your voice and converts it to text. In Chrome and Edge that conversion is performed by Google on their servers; in Safari it is handled by Apple. We never receive or store the audio — only the text that appears in the field, which is saved on your device like anything else you type. If you would rather no audio left your device, simply type instead: the button is entirely optional, and it does not appear at all in browsers that do not support it.
The Tidy this up button beside those fields sends the text of that field to our AI provider to be rewritten more clearly, in the same way as the other AI features described above.
Because your plan is stored on your device rather than our servers, its security depends on the security of your device and browser. Anyone with access to your device, browser profile or an unlocked screen may be able to see it.
We hold no copy, so we cannot recover your information. It may be permanently lost if you clear your browsing data or cookies, use a browser set to clear site data on exit, use private or incognito browsing, uninstall or reset your browser, or move to a different browser, device or user profile. Your information is not synchronised between devices. The app provides Export data and Import data functions so you can keep your own backup file, and we strongly recommend you do.
Our website uses basic cookies to help the site function, and your business plan is saved using your browser's local storage.
We also use Google Ads conversion tracking on this website. If you arrive here from one of our Google adverts, Google may set cookies so that a resulting purchase can be attributed back to that advert. This tells us which adverts are working; it does not tell us who you are. This is an advertising cookie, and it is set by Google rather than by us — Google's use of the information it collects is governed by their own privacy terms.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used. This records which pages are viewed, how far down a page people scroll, whether the demo video is played, and which buttons are pressed — for example whether someone clicks through to the payment page. It tells us where people lose interest so we can improve the site. It does not tell us who you are: we do not send your name, email address or any information you enter into the app to Google Analytics, and we cannot use it to identify an individual visitor. Google may set cookies to recognise a repeat visit. Google's use of the information it collects is governed by their own privacy terms.
Nothing from inside the app is tracked in this way. Your business plan, your financial figures and everything else you enter remain on your own device as described in section 4.
You can block or delete these cookies through your browser settings, or opt out of personalised Google advertising through Google Ad Settings. Many browsers now block this kind of tracking by default. You can also opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google's opt-out browser add-on. Doing any of this will not affect your ability to use B-PlanDIY.
We use a small number of trusted third-party services:
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold. Access to our customer database is restricted, and information sent between your browser, our server and the services listed above is encrypted in transit.
Because your business plan itself stays on your own device, keeping that device and browser secure is important — we recommend using a password or PIN, avoiding shared or public computers for sensitive information, and keeping your browser up to date.
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
